Believe it or not, there are many ice rinks in Florida where you can play ice hockey. According to USA Hockey, there are 17 ice rinks in Florida and demand for adult hockey in Florida is growing: http://www.sahofhockey.org/page/show/807702-adult-league. “Adult leagues are one of the fastest growing segments of hockey in Florida,” the USA Hockey website stated.
There is going to be another ice rink one coming next year in Winter Garden. The Orlando Solar Bears announced recently that they will be moving to Winter Garden. So sharpen up your skates and try out a drop-in hockey session to get the legs and hands back in game shape.
Each rink has a website (See links below) where you can find out more. The rinks run their own leagues, so get backing the game and a league at one of these many ice rinks across the state of Florida.
I got back into adult hockey by calling my local rink’s hockey director. There should be someone there who can direct you to a team captain. Usually, there is a team that is short on players. I’ve also heard of guys just showing up and asking around to see if any teams are needing players.
I’ve always preferred hockey over all other sports in Florida partly because it is a much cooler environment in which to burn calories during workouts. Plus, I find that skating is a lot easier on the knees than running and it is a full body workout for both upper and lower body.
